Humble, Shy and Sweet, Atticus the Bernese Mountain Dog somehow manages to be both Massive and Invisible at the same time. Atticus reminds Xianning of a Jack Black character – Unobtrusive, Always Faithful but Overlooked.

Happy and Charming, Vixen is the Life of the Neighborhood Pack party. Don't let her Bubbly Demeanor fool you. She is quite a Smart Labradoodle, and she can sniff out a Treat Pocket from thirty feet. Vixen reminds Xianning of Carol Channing.

Opinionated and Outspoken, Simon instructs Human and Canine Kind alike, to Keep it Down when they pass his door. His Bluster hides a Heart of Gold, however. He was my Very First Friend in the Neighborhood Pack. He reminds Xianning of Tim Conway's World's Oldest Man.

Toki, who lives directly below me at Lovely Harborview Condominiums, has been Enthusiastically and Exhaustively Investigating the Neighborhood for much of his Long Life. He is my Guide to the Neighborhood Wild Kind as they pass, reminding Xianning of Steve Irwin.

My Backyard Neighbor, Cookie, is a bit of a Recluse. whose Spirit reminds Xianning of the Fierce Taoist Priest in Chinese Ghost Story. Unlike those on the higher floors, Cookie has a constant flow of Wild Kind past her door. She has abandoned attempts to protect her territory, instead merely watching the Flow.

My laid back neighbor, Elvis, was a bit of a celebrity. In his Early Years, his Salty Dog Video was an Internet Sensation (click picture for video). In his Golden Years, he became an advocate for the benefits of Canine CBD, which relieved his suffering from seizures. Elvis was blind, and his Human carried him to visit with me. Xianning said that she had never seen a look of love for an animal on a human's face like the one on his human's when she was carrying him. I have, all the time. Elvis died at the end of 2019, and is missed.

Just down the hill from Elvis lives one of Mpaji and Xianning's favorite Canine Neighbors, Alfie. I am asleep when this big guy takes his morning walks, but I am told that he has a heart of marshmallow and an eye for squirrels. Xianning thinks he would be a perfect Hoss Cartwright to ride alongside Sheriff Cinco.

This dynamic duo arrived in Cinco's Corner at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020. First came Murphy, the puppy wonder, able to steal a Human's heart with a single wiggle. Xianning had already easily figured out his Doppelgänger when along came Ollie, perfectly attired as the Dark Knight.

Kota, my Highly Intelligent Gecko Neighbor Upstairs, is an expert on the Geology, Wild Kind and Microclimates of San Diego. He slips out to sun bathe with Bella, Django, Toki and me. Xianning thinks Michio Kaku would be a good doppelgänger for him.

Beautiful Bella and Distinguished Django are my Next Door Cat Neighbors. They introduce me to the Feathered Kind since Silent Sue is an Aveanthrope. Xianning thinks they belong in Breakfast at Tiffany's (and not in the role of Cat).

Mpaji's Dearest Friend, Emma, is a Comfortable and Confident Cat. She spends her Days Luxuriating on Thick Floor Pillows, helping Mpaji in the Garden, and enjoying Fancy Bisque. Elegant Reynard and Rebby have been raising their Grey Fox Kits on Cinco's Corner for many years, much to the delight of the Residents of Lovey Scenic Harbor Condominiums. Mpaji sometimes passes Reynard on the hill as he returns home from his long night of work.

The Garden of Lovely Scenic Harbor Condominiums is the home of Flower, Durian and their Skunk Family. Their young son, Baby Bainberry (pictured above), used to hang out with Atticus in his backyard before puberty hit, and Bainberry had to say, "Good-bye" to his Big Buddy.

Orb Weavers are beautiful San Diego garden spiders. Rad Charlotte makes her home in the little lemon grove at Lovely Scenic Harbor Condominiums. During the drought, Xianning sprinkled water on her web and watched her drink. Xianning thinks it looks like she has Tatoo Sleeves.

My Big Buddy, the Cream Colored Golden Retriever Norman, and I share an affinity for Well Cured Feces. He and I visit when I stop by his Cul de Sac "Poop Plantation." Like Norm on Cheers, he'll snarf up anything I miss — "You gonna eat that?"

I like to rest on my old pal Luka's yard and invite her out to play, sometimes loudly at 6:15 in the morning. When she comes out, Xianning says we chat like Lucy and Ethel (She says that I'm Lucy because I'm the Red Head).i

For Many Months Xianning and I exchanged "greetings" with King, the stately Great Dane, and his two little energetic friends, Winston and Molly. They reminded Xianning of Mr. French out with Buffy and Jody. One day in December of 2019, Molly was no longer with them. Her Human's grief has been equal to his overwhelming love.

Like something from a horror movie, I came nose to nose with Flower's Sister, Daisy, on a dark morning in the middle of the sidewalk. By the time I had struck my Play Pose to let her know I was a Friend of Flower's, I was nose to tail, with a face full Mace.

I met Elegant Anthony, the Golden Retriever who reminds Xianning of Jimmy Stewart, on my Very First Adventure. He has spent much of his Long Life assisting at an Orthodox Christian Orphanage in Tijuana. We stopped seeing him on our walks soon after, and have since learned that he has moved.

Oliver, my Rakish Tri-Pad Friend, is my On-lead Wrestling Partner. He patiently waits for me to finish resting in the Ice Vine along Reynard Way before engaging me in Fierce Combat. Oliver reminds Xianning of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.

I admit that I was jealous of my Friend Tootsie. She is transported in her own Bag or Carriage, and she is welcome in the Convenience Store. She is really a Down-to Earth dog, with a very nice owner, reminding Xianning of Little Orphan Annie.
